"Positano Meets Palm Beach"

During the 1960s when the "Hippie Look" was taking over the world, “Moda Positano” was born in a sunny, paradise corner of Italy. At that time, people coming from the city didn’t expect such a mild climate so they usually didn’t have the right clothing to wear. The visitors went through the seaside town's many souvenir shops asking for pareo wraps, shorts, swim suits and other beachwear items. Very few options were available.

In response, the original traders from Positano began to design and produce a new fashion using linen, hand-embroidered towels and sheets from traditional wedding kits, which were finished with elegantly crocheted bobbing and other applications.

This new style of clothing enjoyed great success since it was vastly different from traditional city wear. Entrepreneurs such as Benetton and Fiorucci, usually on holiday in Positano, showed the local designers how to use colorful dyes reflecting the natural beauty of the coastal area, which added an element of increased appeal for tourists.

Designer Giacomo Cinque began creating unique patterns to express his love for the artistry of embroidery. Together with Riccardo Ruggiti, Positano's first antique dealer, these two visionaries launched Antica Sartoria's two boutiques in the city's center and beachside area. Now, their reach has expanded to many more Italian cities such as Rome, Venice and Florence.

In October 2016, because of the popular clothing line's international demand, Antica Sartoria is finally arriving in the United States. Palm Beach, like Positano, is known as a premiere destination for visitors -- and residents -- looking for luxury and distinctive style. Palm Beach stands ready to preserve the spirit and expression of this highly original “Positanese” fashion. Antica Sartoria now open at Downtown at the Gardens!
